University of Houston-Clear Lake and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston will co-host the first annual Greater Houston Area STEM Conference, Saturday, March 4, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. More than 200 educators from 20 school districts in the Houston-Galveston and surrounding areas have already registered to attend the one-day event at UH-Clear Lake, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.

The initiative was begun in 2016 by Sheila Baker, College of Education assistant professor of Literacy, Language and Literature Studies.

UHCL offers new degree in Early Childhood Care and Education

Addressing the need for high quality preparation programs for professionals in early childhood care and education, UHCL will begin offering the Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Care and Education in fall 2017. Emphasizing childcare from birth through age 5, the new four-year bachelor’s degree will provide both the knowledge and the field experiences necessary for students to become leaders in the early childhood care workforce.

More than 175 area school counselors and teachers attended University of Houston-Clear Lake’s two-day, bilingual counseling conference titled, “Culturally Responsive Counseling with Latinx - Our Past, Our Present, Our Future.” The conference covered a wide range of multicultural counseling topics and concerns.
